We are excited to welcome voice instructor, Catherine Stuart, to our faculty at Charlotte Academy of Music! Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Catherine is a Teaching Artist and Performer with a focus on musical theatre. Catherine holds a degree from Franciscan University where she studied with Wendy Welch, John Kuether, and Gary Kline. She has experience working as an actress and model in film, print, and commercials. Catherine has a vast amount of experience performing in musicals and showcases, most recently at Stowe Theatre Guild in Vermont. Some of her favorite roles include the regional premiere of Into the Breeches! (June), Diary of Anne Frank (Anne), Peter Pan (Wendy), Anne of Green Gables (Anne), and One Slight Hitch (PB). Catherine has also taught musical theatre classes and summer camps at Dallas Children’s Theatre and Nashville Children’s Theatre.
Catherine writes, “I value helping my students to express themselves through music. In teaching, I believe in working with my students to help them discover their own unique voice, as I believe the voice is the innermost expression of the heart and is individual to each person. In lessons, we will focus on breathing, vocal exercises, song study, and text analysis (to name a few), so whether you are singing for the first time or preparing for your next audition, we will strengthen your voice through appropriate vocal work that emphasizes physical, emotional, and vocal health since singing should always be fun, healthy, and rewarding. In addition to vocal work, I specialize in audition coaching, performance preparation, and career mentorship for more advanced students. Finally, when I’m not in classes, you can find me reading a long book, drinking a hot cup of tea, or hiking around the North Carolina mountains. I look forward to seeing you in the studio!”
